Man beaten by cops during BASKETBALL GAME to file criminal charges

Echague, Isabela – A 27-year old man in Isabela said in an interview with Bombo Radyo Cauayan that he will be filing criminal charges against 10 law enforcers who ganged up on him while they were playing basketball in San Fabian, Echague last week.

The victim, Jayson Macutay, 27 years old, a resident of San Fabian in said town, narrated that the mauling happened on January 19, 2022.

Macutay recalled that his friends noticed that one of the cops smelled like alcohol, but they continued to play with them until the law enforcers started to become aggressive as the game advanced.

Macutay said that during the game, a policeman later identified as PCapt. Teresito Calimposan Jr., the Commanding Officer of 205th Maneuver Company of Regional Mobile Force, committed a foul and in frustration, hurled the ball at Macutay’s back, of which the latter responded with a punch having been hurt and offended.

Seeing the incident, ten other policemen came and ganged up on Macutay and severely beat him. The police officers told Macutay that he had just punched their chief.

According to Macutay, he did not take a swing against the police. During the incident Macutay said he felt severe pain in his head that he did not know what happened next, claiming pain all over his body.

Based on a medical certificate issued by Echague District Hospital, the victim sustained contusion hematoma due to mauling.

PCapt. Teresito Calimposan Jr., on the other hand, apologized for what his men did to the victim and wanted to negotiate with Macutay, claiming that he did not intentionally hit Macutay with the ball, but was just shocked when he was punched in the head. This, he said, caused his men to beat Macutay.

Macutay said he will file a criminal case against the police.
