P.6B Marijuana plants burned in Cordillera


Tabuk City, Kalinga – Around P678 million worth of marijuana plants and seedlings were burned in three Cordillera provinces during a five-day separate police operations, according to the report of the Philippine National Police Cordillera.


The burning of the illegal weeds was done after the police simultaneously launched a big time marijuana eradication in 72 plantation sites in Benguet, Kalinga, and Mountain Province from September 23 to 27, 2021.

During the eradication, the operatives discovered and uprooted a total of 2,241,500 fully grown marijuana plants and 1,640 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves, stalks and fruiting tops in 39 plantation sites.


Said operation yielded a total of P645,100,000 destroyed marijuana.


Meanwhile, in Benguet, around 11,850 weeds and 24,780 seedlings with a total worth of P3,361,200 were eradicated, and in Mountain Province, around 152,000 marijuana plants with a total value of P30,400,000 were also destroyed.

Cordillera Police Director, Police Brigadier General Ronald Lee, during his visit in Tinglayan, Kalinga, extended his appreciation of the efforts of the operating troops and instructed them to continuously monitor the presence of marijuana plants in their area.


Meantime, around P5,200,000 worth of suspected marijuana bricks were confiscated in Mabalacat, Pampanga last September 24, which authorities believed were smuggled from Tabuk City.
