Pasil RHU to host blood donation drive on World Blood Donor Day

Pasil, Kalinga – In observance of the World Blood Donor Day, the Rural Health Unit of Pasil will be hosting blood donation drive this June 14, 2022 in Barangay Galdang.

Pasil, under the leadership of Mayor Alfredo ‘Chao-ig’ Malannag Jr., was earlier recognized by the outgoing Governor Ferdinand Tubban for being the “only LGU regularly conducting blood donation along with Balbalan.” The blood donation, done by the unit every quarter, resulted in the sufficient stock of blood.

Marlyne Gammong, Medical Technologist of the said unit, explained that World Blood Donor Day was established to raise awareness of the need for regular and non-remunerated blood donation.

This year's campaign, she said, aims to promote community values of blood donation in strengthening community solidarity and social linkage, encourage youth to consider blood donation as a social responsibility, and inspire other people to donate blood and advocate for voluntary blood donation.

“With this endeavor, we are calling for eligible and healthy blood donors ages 16-65 years old (Parental consent needed for blood donors below 18 years old) to come and donate blood as an act of solidarity in hopes to save countless lives,” Gammong expressed thru her social media post.

“Together let us join the effort and save lives. MAGING BAYANING TOTOO, MAGBIGAY NG DUGO!” added the Medical Technologist.

According to Gammong, their team will likewise conduct an information drive on dengue surveillance alongside the blood donation activity.
