Abra, Philippines – The New People’s Army reportedly lost one of its comrades in a gunfight with the government troops in Abra.
The encounter took place past 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Oct. 03, 2023, at Sitio Lamunan, Barangay Gacab, Malibcong, Abra.
The clash ensued while a platoon of the 24th Infantry Battalion was conducting security operations. The troop chanced upon an undetermined number of the communist terrorist group under Kilusang Larangang Guerilla (KLG) North Abra, reported the military.
A 15-minute clash resulted in the death of a rebel who is yet to be identified, while his comrades fled the scene.
The troops recovered M14 rifle, M4A1 Carbine rifle, ammunitions, medical supplies, and subversive documents.
In a related report by the 5th Infantry Division, the terrorist group has members from Mindanao.
It was in Gacab village of the same town where the two soldiers died in an ambush by the rebels. The victims were then on their way to assist members of the disaster response team following a magnitude 6.4 quake.
