TUBA, Benguet — Towering stone walls, castle-like structures, and breathtaking mountain views are once again capturing the imagination of travelers in the Cordillera as a new attraction rises along the Naguilian Road in Tuba, Benguet.

Dubbed by locals and curious visitors as the “Igorot Stone Kingdom 2,” the developing site is expected to become the next major tourism destination in the province, building on the success of the original Igorot Stone Kingdom that has drawn thousands of visitors from across the country.

Founded by engineer and contractor Pio Velasco, the Igorot Stone Kingdom began as a vision inspired by the ingenuity of Cordilleran stone-laying traditions and the rich cultural heritage of the Igorot people. Since opening in Baguio City in 2021, the attraction has become one of the region’s most recognizable landmarks, known for its massive stone structures and unique architectural design.

Now, even before its completion, the second site is already generating excitement.

Motorists traveling along Naguilian Road often slow down to catch a glimpse of the enormous stone structures taking shape on the mountainside. Photos and videos circulating on social media have fueled public curiosity, with many describing the new attraction as grander, more scenic, and even more impressive than its predecessor.

Perched against a backdrop of rolling mountains and lush greenery, the emerging site offers panoramic views that have already become a favorite subject of online content creators and travel enthusiasts. Its castle-like appearance, combined with the dramatic landscape of Tuba, has sparked anticipation among both locals and tourists eager to see what the finished attraction will offer.

The expansion comes as the original Igorot Stone Kingdom continues to enjoy immense popularity despite facing challenges in its early years.

In November 2022, the attraction was temporarily closed by order of Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong due to permit issues and concerns regarding the safety of some stone structures. However, the management addressed the requirements and complied with government regulations. By March 2023, the complaints had been dropped, paving the way for the attraction's reopening the following month under stricter safety, traffic, and environmental guidelines.

The reopening reaffirmed the attraction’s place as one of the country's most sought-after tourist destinations.
