BFP Tabuk on red alert; 3 farmlands razed this week

Updated: May 15, 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is now on red alert after they responded to three grassfire incidents just this week.

The public, especially those living and working near wide grass lands, are advised to take extra precautions considering that even small spark could easily start a grass fire. The extreme weather, they said, has created vast fire risk areas in the city.

Acting City Fire Marshal SINSP Ronald Rivera estimated that a total of 7.5 hectares farmland were razed during the fire incidents on May 11 and in May 12 and 14 in different areas in Tabuk

Rivera said that the latest grassfire incident this morning, May 14, happened in Sitio Ileb, Barangay Nambaran where 1.5 hectares of grassland including assorted trees were destroyed by the conflagration. The BFP personnel, he added, took 15 minutes before they could declare a fire out in the area.

“Iti pagmayatan na tattay diay puor idiay, as per observation mi ket adda iti fire breaker nga inaramid daytoy owner. So, mas ma-control diay spread iti fire ta adda diay fire breaker idiay vicinity na,” he explained.

Said incident is still under investigation as to its cause as of this writing.

May 11 and 12 fire incidents

Rivera relates that the incident in May 11 happened in Callagdao where at least 2 hectares were burned because of an open flame. This is the same with the fire incident that happened the next day in Sitio Basao in Barangay Dilag that destroyed 4 hectares of grassland.

“Parehas nga open flame, isu ngay diay kunkunami a nu adda iti agdalus, iti kunada bassit lang nga ag-puor da ngem diay angin ngarud ken daytoy pudot isu ag-spread,” he explained.

Nevertheless, no one was injured during this three grassfire incidents.

2-3 meters fire breaker advised

The acting fire marshal said that it is the responsibility of those cleaning their farms to make sure that their fire is put off before they leave the area.

“Dapat responsable da latta, daytoy panagdal-dalus da unay. Haan da basta basta agpuor. Isunga responsibilidad da a mangisimpa idiay nagdalusan da,” he said.

He added that land owners, especially those who have fruit bearing trees and other crops, should create a 2-3 meter fire breaker around the vicinity of their farm. This, he said, will prevent the spread of fire in their farms in case such incident happens.
