Tanudan, Kalinga – In a move to strengthen the coffee industry in Tanudan, Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag announced that the budget for the revitalization of coffee plantations in town is now under active consideration.

The revitalization of coffee plantations is seen as the answer to several problems – supply of enough coffee, provision of livelihood, and boosting of the local economy and tourism in town.

Speaking before the iTanudans on the 10th Kape Festival celebration on June 24 in Banagao, Poblacion, the local chief executive said the LGU plans to revive abandoned and unproductive coffee plantation sites in the municipality and that the funding for the cause is now being discussed.

“Reviving our coffee plantations is not just an agricultural goal—it is a community mission. It means providing livelihood for our farmers, engaging our youth in agri-entrepreneurship, and preserving our ancestral practices while adopting modern strategies. It means creating a legacy,” he said.

Dagadag likewise announced that the creation of the Municipal Coffee Council of Tanudan has been recently approved. The council will oversee the planning, guidance, and the provision of support to the local coffee industry in the town.

“As your Mayor, I stand firm in my commitment to support this endeavor with all the strength of our local government. But I also call on each of you—our elders, farmers, youth, associations, and stakeholders—to take part in this journey,” Dagadag expressed.

The local chief executive then asked for the support of every iTanudan in this bid to bring back the sustainable coffee production in town, saying, “let us walk hand-in-hand towards a future where Tanudan coffee will not only be known in Kalinga, but across our nation, and one day—across the globe.”
