Grassland in Cagayan razed by fire started by cigarette

Amulung, Cagayan – The Bureau of Fire Protection-Cagayan reminded the public to be responsible for burning and disposing of cigarette butts to prevent fire incidents.

This reminder follows a fire incident in Amulung, Cagayan, on Tuesday, February 27, which was reportedly caused by a cigarette thoughtlessly discarded in grassland.

According to BFP-Cagayan, the fire engulfed three hectares of land.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no significant property damage resulted from the fire. Moreover, the fire extinguished itself.

In the event of a fire, the agency advises the public to immediately contact BFP stations within their area to ensure prompt suppression of the fire.

It has been noted that instead of informing BFP about the incident in Amulung, some individuals in the area chose to record the incident with their phones.

In the Cordillera Region, fire incidents have also occurred in several municipalities in Benguet and Baguio City.

Records indicate that from January 1 to February 23, 63 forest fires occurred, destroying over 300 hectares of forest in these areas.

These fire incidents have also posed threats to the tourism industry in these places, particularly in Atok, where the famous Northern Blossom Farm is located.
