Pasil, Kalinga – Personnel from the Department of Health-Cordillera visited the municipality of Pasil on November 4 to urge barangay officials to intensify their COVID-19 vaccination campaign and endeavor to achieve the 70% target by the end of the month.

Assistant Regional Director of DOH-CAR, Dr. Amelita M. Pangilinan, in a dialog conducted at Ableg, challenged the local government officials to step up and convince their constituents to take an active part in the vaccination campaign.

This is after Municipal Health Officer Dr. Aldrin Siwao, during the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (PIATF) held on November 3, revealed that there are few barangay captains and officials who are not yet vaccinated. The hesitancy, he said, has a great impact on the community’s participation.

Pangilinan emphasized the big role of officials who are supposed to take the lead on the vaccination for the community to be protected against the pandemic.

Pasil MHO had been bringing vaccines to fixed sites in every barangay, but some vaccines were being returned since some members of the community refused to be vaccinated despite efforts in explaining the benefits of getting inoculated. It is in these times that the intervention of barangay officials is needed.

“Until now ur-urayek met nu adda agayab kanyami nga agpa-vaccine iti barangay da ket awan met,” Dr. Siwao stated in an interview.

The health office, along with Mayor Alfredo “Chao-ig” Malannag Jr. who also graced the program, encouraged cooperation among the officials and the community as the fight against the pandemic is a shared responsibility.

According to the report of the Provincial Health Office, the municipality is at a 45% vaccination rate as of November 9, 2021. A total of 3,738 individuals are yet to receive their COVID-19 dose.

To reach the goal, the municipality has to inoculate 241 individuals daily.
