Ifugao, Philippines – The first-ever representative sent by Ifugao to Miss World Philippines delivered an impressive performance and clinched the Miss Global Philippines 2026 title during the final competition held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Tuesday, February 3.

Among the 24 delegates, Miss Ifugao Valerie Pawid West advanced to the Top 10 semifinalists after excelling in the initial rounds of the question-and-answer segment.

As a finalist, she was given a 30-second time limit to address contemporary social issues.

When asked whether wage increases should match the cost of living even if businesses struggle financially, she answered:

“I think the most important thing the Philippines needs to address at this moment is the root of the problem, and that’s inflation. So it’s important that we start there, so we could provide more future and livelihoods for not just our citizens, but also our business owners. We need to take more action in legislation first before we can address any wage changes.”

Her poise and articulate response ultimately secured her the Miss Global Philippines 2026 crown, which qualifies her to represent the country on the international stage.

Other awards

Valerie also shared recognition as standout performer in the swimsuit segment with the newly crowned Miss World Philippines 2026, Asia Rose Simpson of Quezon City.

The 23-year-old biomedical engineer also received several special awards, including Miss Charity & Province of the Year, Miss Proshot, Miss Honest Glow, Miss Bench Active, Miss Monarc Montage International, Online Voting 1st Runner-Up, and Miss Hikari.

She was also the winner of the Sports Challenge, one of the pageant’s fast-track events.

The beauty queen now aims to bring home the Philippines’ second Miss Global crown, following the victory of Shane Tormes in 2022.
