Tabuk City, Kalinga – Out of the 12 entries from the different regions, an alumna of Kalinga-Apayao State College now Kalinga State University won the National Commission on Higher Education’s “Merit Scholarship: My Success Story,” and awarded P50,000 prize with Plaque of Recognition.
The awards were conferred to Margie Galamto Palactao during the 2022 CHED Gawad Parangal held on Wednesday, May 18 at Quezon City University.
The former Director for Student Services of KSU, Dr. Marilou Alngag, reported this in a press release.
What is CHED Merit Scholarship: My Success Story?
Merit Scholarship: My Success Story is a video contest launched by the commission to recognize the remarkable story of success of the graduates who have been beneficiaries of its Student Financial Assistance Programs (STUFAPs) that made significant contributions to their families and society.
In her entry, Palactao narrated that being the eldest of ten siblings, she dreamed to be a teacher to fulfill her obligation not only to her family and but also to the community.
Her parents are farmers and to graduate in college level seemed impossible. This was until she was accepted as CHED scholar.
Nakapagtapos ako ng Bachelor of Elementary Education sa Kalinga-Apayao State College na ngayon ay Kalinga State University,” she recalled.
Palactao then volunteered in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) for three years as she believes in the potentials of the community.
With her determination, Palactao is now a permanent Teacher at Wagud Elementary School, Pinukpuk. She was able to build their house and is now capable of supporting her siblings financially.
When given a chance to deliver her victory speech, she advised the youth to pursue their studies because education is vital in building their future. In addition, she encouraged the said sector to turn their hardship into inspiration to achieve their dream.
