‘Nando’ may landfall on Babuyan Islands or Batanes on Monday; Signal no. 5 possible

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Severe Tropical Storm ‘Nando’ is forecast to make land fall on Batanes or Babuyan Islands on Monday, September 22 – wind signal number 5 is possible over Northern Luzon, according to the state weather bureau.

 

In a Tropical Cyclone Update at 5:00 a.m. this Saturday, September 20, the PAGASA informed that ‘Nando’ continues to intensify as it moves northwestward over the Philippine Sea. It was last located 780 kilometers East of Casiguran, Aurora.

 

Nando is expected to intensify further and may reach Typhoon category within the next 12 hours and Super Typhoon by Monday before it nears Batanes – Babuyan Islands. PAGASA added that the weather disturbance may landfall over Batanes or Babuyan Islands on Monday afternoon or evening.

 

“NANDO will enhance the Southwest Monsoon as it approaches the landmass. Wind Signal No. 1 will be hoisted over Northern Luzon within the day, and the highest Wind Signal that may be hoisted throughout its passage is Wind Signal No. 5,” PAGASA informed.

 

According to the state weather bureau, Nando may exit the Philippine Area of responsibility by Tuesday morning or noon.
