P1.2M allotted for 250 Sagada farmers to cushion impact of pandemic


Sagada, Mountain Province—250 farmers from the different barangays of Sagada were the recent beneficiaries of the Department of Agriculture's Cash and Food Subsidy for Marginal Farmers and Fisherfolk (CFSMFF) Program.


During the distribution held on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, the beneficiaries availed of the P500,000 worth food assistance through the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAg). Each beneficiary received P2,000-worth of food assistance, consisting of 25 kilograms of rice, 2 pieces of whole dressed Magnolia chicken, and two trays of chicken eggs.

The program which aims to help its target recipients recover from the economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic enabled farmers in Sagada to avail a total amount of P1,250,000, P750,000 for its cash assistance, and P500,000 worth of food assistance.


The Department of Agriculture partnered with the Sagada Multi-purpose cooperative for the provision of the food subsidy, which benefited them as well since the program also aims to give market support to local producers of chicken and rice, and source of livelihood to micro, small and medium enterprises.


The cash assistance, Sagada LGU said, shall be distributed soon upon release of funds wherein each of the recipients shall be getting P3,000 each.

Beneficiaries, according to Sagada LGU, were selected based on eligibility through the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).


The CFSMFF is funded under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act and is included in the Social Protection and Social Amelioration Projects under the Stimulus Package for Agriculture. The program aims to provide subsidy for fisherfolk, farmers and Indigenous Peoples heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.


As recalled, DA Cordillera allotted a total fund of P137, 395,000 for the implementation of said program to benefit 9,839 corn farmers, 380 sugarcane growers, 14,997 fishers, and 2,263 Indigenous Peoples in the region.
