Rural youth in Kalinga train on Bamboo, Wood and Coconut Shell Crafting for income

Tabuk City, Kalinga - A total of 18 Alternative Learning System (ALS) Students and members of the Rural Improvement Club of Bulo have recently undergone training to help them come up with marketable products and sustainable livelihood.


Through the Negosyo Center of the Department of Trade and Industry-Kalinga, skills training in Crafting, Recycling, and Utilization of Coconut Shells was held from October 20 to 21, 2021.


Beneficiaries from Bulo, Tabuk City were equipped with various techniques and skills in enhancing their coconut handicrafts as one of their income-generating activity.

Trade and Industry Development Specialist and the Wearable and Home styles Focal Person Benedicta B. Mangadap motivated the participants “to sustain their passion in crafting trendy novelty/ souvenir items which will soon serve as their livelihood in the community.”


A separate skills training on Bamboo and Wood Handicraft and Waste Utilization was also held by the same Center of DTI-Kalinga at San Julian, Tabuk City from October 25 to 26, 2021.

Applying the skills they gained from the training, participants were able to produce lampshades, speakers, flower vase, candle holder, musical instruments, and hanging decors out of bamboo.


Resource person Pablo Bawer “encouraged the participants to utilize their bamboo resources and hone their creativity and ingenuity to come up with marketable products and sustainable livelihood.”
