Baguio City, Philippines― Saint Louis University (SLU) has conducted first face-to-face class under new normal for its nursing students today, May 31, 2021.

SLU is the only university in the Cordillera region that was included in the list of 24 higher education institutions (HEIs) allowed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to implement ‘limited face-to-face classes’ starting on the second semester of academic year 2020-2021.

Reports said that Saint Louis University (SLU) has resumed clinical clerkship for its medical students in March.

The university was also permitted by CHED to hold face-to-face laboratory activities for its nursing students which started today, May 31.

It can be recalled that CHED Chairman Prospero de Vera III announced that these colleges and universities passed stringent retrofitting and has fully complied with the guidelines of the Department of Health and the Covid-19 Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

Therefore, CHED said selected allied health-related courses like Medicine, Nursing, Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science, Physical Therapy, Midwifery, and Public Health, were prioritized.

This is to enable students to achieve key learning outcomes on specialized laboratory courses and hospital-based clinical clerkship/internship/practicum and to provide additional manpower to the country's health system.
