Tanudan, Kalinga - A dump truck ferrying 4 individuals including the driver, lost brakes, and went straight to the side of the road causing it to fall on its side, pinning down the front part of a rescue mobile it was following.

The accident happened on the Magimit-Patakalin Road in Tanudan around 11 in the morning on July 25.

Analiza Cadatal, 53, a resident of Taloctoc and one of the individuals ferried by the dump truck, arrived at the PDRRM office seeking assistance after she was rescued on said date.

In an interview with GURU Press Cordillera, Cadatal said the dump truck’s brakes failed. The driver then decided to avoid directly hitting the rescue vehicle it was following and maneuvered to the side of the road. The wheels of the dump truck then slipped into the canal and caused the dump truck to fall on its side. Unfortunately, it hit the front part of the rescue vehicle.

"Nu awan diyay rescue vehicle ti Tanudan ket talaga nadangran kami. Daytoy [rescue vehicle] garud ti nag-save kanyami,” explained Cadatal, being one of those in the rescue vehicle.

“Sinarsaruno nakami (diay dumptruck), tattan nu paspasan na piman, isuda ti matinnag. Isu nga daytoy truck inkabig na idyay igid ngem diyay wheel nai-shoot idyay canal isunga natumba," she recounted.

Cadatal further shared that they were on their way to attend the ongoing fiesta of Taloctoc, which started on July 24, when the accident happened.

The PDRRM personnel, after finding out the situation, contacted and informed the rescue teams, to which the latter responded quickly. Rescue immediately provided and the victims are found with minor bruises but no major injuries.

The FB Page of Governor James Edduba said that the PDRRM personnel with the right equipment went to the area late night of July 25 to move the two vehicles that were stuck on the Magimit-Patakalin Road and that the road was cleared. It is not passable for motorists.
