Quezon City, Philippines – Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) clarified Tuesday, December 12, 2020 that there are no decisions nor recommendations taken in allowing the under-aged to visit malls for National Capital Region area and the rest of the country in light with the CoViD-19 pandemic.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said respective mayors together with the Philippine Pediatric Society and other health experts shall have to convene to come up with a resolution. “Kahit magpasa ng pinag-isang panukala ang mga alkalde na pumapayag na magpunta sa mga mall at iba pang pampublikong lugar ang mga menor de edad o mga bata, ang huling pagpapasya ay nasa IATF at sa Pangulo. Hintayin na lang natin ang mga mayor na magpasa ng rekomendasyon sa IATF,” he said reminding that the directive not allowing minors to go out from their houses still remains.

He likewise advised the public to limit the number of people going out from their residences while the country is still facing the Coronavirus pandemic in spite of cases climbing down. “Hangga’t maaari, bawasan natin ang bilang ng mga taong lumalabas lalo na ang mga matatanda at mga menor de edad, pero pakikinggan namin ang rekomendasyon ng mga Metro Manila mayors at mga eksperto sa kalusugan,” he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte in a recent IATF meeting declared seven LGUs that are still under General Community Quarantine (GCQ): Batangas, Lanao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Iloilo City, Iligan City, Davao City and Metro Manila. All other areas in the country is placed under GCQ and MGCQ until the end of the year.

As per IATF guidelines, persons aged 15 to 65 years old are allowed to go out under GCQ and MGCQ if their reason is necessary or essential. For NCR, only persons aged 18 to 65 are allowed subject to the same discretion.
