Tabuk City, Kalinga – Farmers in Kalinga and Isabela are expected to have more harvests following the simultaneously inauguration of three projects from the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Cordillera on May 28, 2025.

On said date, the agency inaugurated one solar pump irrigation in Bulo, Tabuk City and the two communal irrigation systems – one in Liwan West, Rizal and one in Malalao, Tabuk City.

The solar pump irrigation project in Bulo serves 165 hectares, benefitting 64 farmers in Tabuk City and neighboring areas in Isabela.

According to Rey Gunnawa, the Senior Irrigators Development Officer of NIA Kalinga, all of these newly-inaugurated projects are ready to be used by the farmers in the province.

Gunnawa added that these government initiatives will greatly help the farmers, saying, “these projects benefit the communities by making it possible for them to do their farming activities on time and by increasing their production.”

Farmers under the Upper Chico River Irrigation System (UCRIS), meantime, adjusted cropping calendar to avoid losses that may be incurred during the rainy season. Farmers under the UCRIS are those from Tabuk and Pinukpuk, Kalinga and Quezon and Mallig, Isabela.
