130 residents of isolated barangay in Calanasan get free medical services

Calanasan Apayao – About 130 residents of a remote barangay in Calanasan were recently served free medical care through a mobile health mission led by the Provincial Government of Apayao (PGA).

 

Barangay Cadaclan is approximately 14.2 kilometers from the town center, with challenging  roads and means to reach it.

 

The Medical mission was implemented under Project BUTSY or the “Bringing Universal Health Care Services towards a Sustainable program implementation yielding to a resilient Apayao,” a project of the Provincial Health Office aimed at providing vital health services to remote areas.

 

According to PGA-Information Office, residents of Barangay Cadaclan benefited from a wide range of free services including basic laboratory testing, dental care, eye exams, and general medical consultations on May 23. 120 individuals were also referred to the Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) office for further evaluation regarding financial assistance and social support services.

 

Of the services, 69 availed the eye check up with free glasses, 45 for basic laboratory services, and 10 for dental procedures. PGA-Information office likewise mentioned that free medicines were distributed based on individual prescriptions.

 

The barangay captain of the area, Inovejas Tubban, expressed gratitude for the patience and sacrifice to come to Cadaclan to send the good programs, adding that they are all thankful with expectation that the help they received will not only be for now but also in other times to come.

 

Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Mark Joleen Calban who led the team, expressed appreciation to the provincial government for the project BUTSY, conveying that the program is vital in the promotion of equitable access to healthcare in geographically remote and disadvantaged communities.

 

This is the second time the project went to Barangay Cadaclan in May this year offering medical services with free circumcision for boys.
