18-yr.-old out-of-school youth in La Trinidad jumps to death from hanging bridge


La Trinidad, Benguet – While others welcomed the new year with hope and celebration, a family in Benguet was enveloped in an unexpected wave of sorrow following the devastating loss of an 18-year-old out-of-school youth, whose alleged suicide has left them in grief.

 

Personal information of the victim such as gender and name was not disclosed by the authorities.

 

The victim was witnessed on Monday, Jan. 01, by a passerby engaged in a phone conversation moments before the fatal leap, the La Trinidad police through the DZWT 540 AM - Radyo Totoo reported.

 

Shortly after the conversation, the young individual plunged from the hanging bridge in Lubok, Balili, La Trinidad into the river below.



The responders from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) in La Trinidad attended to the victim, taking the person to Benguet General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

 

Despite the efforts to save the young life, the victim succumbed to severe head injuries sustained from the fall.

 

The victim is from Mankayan, Benguet.

 

The aftermath of this incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support, emphasizing the need for a collective effort to provide assistance and intervention to those in distress.
