Tabuk City, Kalinga - More than P1,000,000 in wages will be distributed to two hundred young students in Kalinga who qualified for the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).

Said cash-for-work program aims to assist students in earning extra income for their education while gaining meaningful work experience during their school break.

The funds for the implementation of the program were made possible through the joint effort of the provincial government of Kalinga and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) - Cordillera.

Of the total amount to be given, 60% will be funded by the PLGU, while 40% will come from DOLE-CAR.

According to the province’s Information Office, each of the 200 students will receive a daily pay of P570 for a period of 10-20 working days, depending on their assigned placement.

The beneficiaries, who come from the seven municipalities and lone city in the province, began their temporary employment in various government offices and local agencies following their orientation on June 24.

During the orientation, Governor James S. Edduba encouraged the youth to take the opportunity seriously, as it is their opportunity to earn and prepare for real-world responsibilities.

“This is more than just summer work. It’s a chance to grow, learn, and prepare for future responsibilities. The provincial government is committed to supporting your journey,” said the governor, as quoted by the Kalinga PIO.
