Besao, Mt. Province – Five infrastructure projects in Besao, Mt. Province, amounting to ₱25 million, were recently completed and inaugurated earlier this February 2026, boosting the town’s agricultural sector.

According to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)–Mt. Province, the monitoring agency, the projects include the improvement of farm-to-market roads (FMRs) in the barangays of Agawa, Ambagiw, Gueday, Lacmaan, and Suquib.

Each project received an allocation of ₱5 million under the Local Government Support Fund – Support to Barangay Development Program (LGSF-SBDP) of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

The program aims to make life easier for local farmers by concreting previously rough and muddy roads, enabling them to transport their agricultural produce to markets more quickly and at lower cost.

Based on information from the Department of Agriculture (DA), common agricultural products in Besao include rice (including traditional varieties), coffee (mostly Arabica), and sugarcane for muscovado production.

Due to the area’s highland terrain, farmers also grow a variety of temperate vegetables and root crops.

In an interview with a local media outlet, Engineer Amie M. Sagudin of DILG-CAR emphasized that beyond supporting agriculture, the improved roads now provide residents with better access to schools, workplaces, and essential government services.

“Ammo tayo met nga nu once nga ma-improve ti kalsada, umasasideg iti services, and dumakdakel ti opportunities for the residents kasi nalaklaka nga sumrek ti services kenyada and nalaklaka nga iruwar ti products da. Nalaka nga itravel ti mula or farm produce da,” Sagudin added.
