Quirin0, Isabela - A life dedicated to public service was cut short following a tragic road accident along the provincial road in Barangay Santiago, Quirino, Isabela, on Monday, June 23.

The accident, as reported by local media, involved a motorcycle and a Toyota Hilux pickup collision, which resulted in the death of a 30-year-old engineer.

The victim was identified by the police as Engr. John Paul Umipig, an employee of NIA and a resident of Barangay Santa Lucia, Quirino.

Based on the initial investigation of the police, the pickup, upon reaching the scene of the incident, attempted to overtake another vehicle, causing it to hit the oncoming motorcycle of the victim.

The pickup driver was identified as Elvin Caliguiran, 45, manager of Isabela Electric Cooperative (ISELCO) 2 Roxas branch.

Due to the force of the impact, John Paul was thrown off the motorcycle, inflicting severe head and body injuries.

Responders from Quirino Police Station and Rescue 1214 rushed John Paul to a medical facility nearby, but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Meanwhile, the driver, Elvin, was unharmed. He allegedly fled the place of the accident but later surrendered himself to the Mallig Police Station.

At present, police are looking into the circumstances of the crash to determine liability.

Elvin will be charged for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property if the matter is not settled amicably.
