Tabuk City, Kalinga – More than three hundred students in Kalinga province received scholarships from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) through the Tulong Dunong Program (TDP), giving them support to continue pursuing their dreams.

Said program provides cash aid amounting to P7,500 per semester, which totals P15,000 per academic year, to help deserving students pay for their tuition, projects, books, and other school needs.

To qualify for the program, a student must be enrolled in a recognized State University or College (SUC), maintain good academic standing, and come from a family that is truly in need of financial support.

In an interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Scholarship Focal Person Danny Guyang said there are a total of 349 new beneficiaries of the TDP in the province who were oriented this Friday, August 29, at the Kalinga Sports Center.

With this new batch, said Guyang, the total number of Kalinga students who now benefit from the program has reached 1,345.

Gracing the orientation of the scholars included a representative from CHED, Committee on Education Chairperson Emilio Kitongan, Provincial Legal Officer Atty. John Paul Baguiwan, representing Governor James Edduba, and former Lubuagan Councilor Jan Jericho Odiem, representing Vice-Governor Dave Odiem, among others.

Recalling their experiences as students, the speakers said scholarships were not as accessible during their time as they are today, and many young people had to struggle to finish school.

They told the scholars that they are more fortunate because programs like TDP now exist to support them.

With that, they reminded the students to value the opportunity given to them and finish their courses.
