4 Cordillerans secure Top Ranks, while 7 claim leadership honors in PMMA Class of 2025

Tabuk City, Kalinga - Cadets from Cordillera region made waves in this year’s Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) graduation, securing top ranks in their respective programs and holding some of the highest leadership positions.


The 252 cadets of the premier maritime school’s “Kadaligtan” (Kawal ng Dalampasigan, Liwanag ng Karagatan) Class, set to serve in the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Navy and Merchant Marine Fleet as licensed marine engineers and deck officers, graduated on Friday, August 15, in San Narciso, Zambales.


Top Rank in PMMA’s BSMT


Topping the PMMA’s Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) program with 144 cadets is Midshipman Lieutenant Commander (Midn/LCDR) Jericho Jessee I. Tannong from Pinukpuk and Lubuagan, Kalinga.


Tannong distinguished himself early on as Star Cadet Top 1. In his sophomore year, he secured a spot in the Top 10 of his class while serving in the Silent Drill Company.


With his commendable conduct, he received Max Merits and was named Deck Cadet of the Year during his shipboard training aboard MV Ansac Moon Bear under Fleet Management Limited. He continued his streak till his senior year, ranking second for the first semester.


Apart from his academic excellence, Tannong held leadership roles. He served as 1st Battalion N1 and held the post of 2nd Battalion Administrative and Personnel Officer (N1).


His intellect and discipline laid the foundation for his ascent to Top 4 in the overall ranking.


Topnotchers in PMMA’s BSMarE


In the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) program, three Cordillerans earned their spot in the Top 10.


Tabuk City, Kalinga’s Midn/LCDR Jerwin C. Aggabao ranked sixth in his class and placed seventh in Top 10 overall. He has been a consistent Star Cadet during his 4th and 3rd Class years and a member of the Silent Drill Company and Sports Committee. Also, he served as 2nd Battalion Supplies and Logistics Officer (N4).


Aggabao gained Max Merits from the Superintendent for his integrity, discipline, and sustained excellence.


Ranked 7th in his class and 8th in the overall is Midshipman Ensign Danny N. Binwag of Lamut, Ifugao whose strong academic performance reflects the strength of his roots.


Completing BSMarE’s Top 10 is Midshipman Ensign Lloyd Daryll G. Pagtud, also from Tabuk City, Kalinga, proving the province’s growing reputation for producing maritime leaders.


Cordillerans with command and company-level posts


Other Cordilleran cadets also made their mark for their roles in the Corps of Midshipmen. Among them is Tabuk City’s Midshipman Commander Noudi Li B. Bagano who served as Regimental Executive Officer and participated in significant military events, including ‘Balikatan 2023’ and the Philippine Fleet Defense Expo.


Midshipman Commander Marie C. Quisoben, the daughter of Bakun, Benguet, served as Regimental Training and Operation Officer (N3). She shines not just in leadership but also in athleticism. She represented the academy in various fields as part of the PMMA Multisports Team and Spartan Team.


Meanwhile, Midn/LCDR Casey Trix D. Balamban from Lamut, Ifugao served as 2nd Battalion Training Operations Officer (N3) while leading the Guidon Committee.


Hailing from Tinglayan, Kalinga, Midn/LCDR Clegie P. Basing-at served as 1st Battalion Training and Operations Officer (N3). He rose to be a Star Cadet during his 4th Class year and honed his precision and leadership as part of the Silent Drill Company.


Midshipman Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Vizomark Clent B. Danglose from Sabangan, Mt. Province was the Foxtrot Company Executive Officer and a member of the Steering and Sports Committees.


Midshipman LTJG Rizza M. Simion of La Trinidad, Benguet served as Echo Company Executive Officer. She was part of Silent Drill Company and was also involved in the HELM Committee. In her 3rd Class year, she served as N4 in the logistics and earned recognition as Star Cadet in her senior year.


Hungduan, Ifugao’s Midshipman Commander Jarence Anniban led the Silent Drill Company, an elite unit which stands out as one of the most disciplined units within the Corps of Midshipmen. Anniban and members of the company dedicate hours to perfecting their craft.
