Balbalan’s Pride: Mayor Malannag Among 125 Outstanding Civil Servants Recognized by PLGU

Contrary to people’s normal views of politicians, Mayor Almar Malannag of Balbalan is often seen with the people – either helping them setup when there is an event, butchering pig for feast, or just simply talking to them like they are some old friends sharing stories – that one who is not familiar of him won’t immediately realize that he is already talking to the mayor himself.

For this, Malannag was described by his constituents and staff as a hands-on and supportive mayor who has been driving the town to progress and getting recognition in the provincial, regional, and national level since he became mayor in 2022.

Recently, Malannag’s efforts, dedication, and hard work have earned him not just the admiration of his people, but also the Kalinga Provincial Government as he was included in the list of the 125 outstanding government servants across the province. His story of exceptional service was featured by the Kalinga Provincial Information Office in celebration of the 125th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary in Kalinga.

Working on the ground with his people, Malannag, who had his humble beginnings and is now serving his second term as the local chief executive of Balbalan, made his administration bring home several citations to the municipality.

Among the major awards received by Balbalan include the Seal of Local Governance, the mother of all awards for LGUs, and the conferment and elevation of the municipality to a first-class town from their previous third-class qualification, a manifestation of the growing economy and development in the municipality.

The recognition and citations received by Balbalan since 2022, which reflect its continuing progress, have been credited by the Mayor to the hard-working employees. The employees, on the other hand, have always mentioned that Mayor Malannag’s consistent support to their activities and programs is the key behind every success achieved in the town.

In his featured story published by the Kalinga PIO, Malannag shared he retains his principles and the dignity of public service by choosing the long and winding road to uphold transparency, accountability, and good governance during his term.

Malannag added that integrity is not a tagline but a decision that must be observed every day even when there is no one around to see it.

The mayor continues to commit his life to serving his constituents in Balbalan and to champion their needs and to work on making the dreams of their ancestors for the town to reality.
