Tinoc, Ifugao – A farmer in Tinoc, Ifugao, died after his small shanty (bahay kubo) was buried by mud and fallen trees at the height of Super Typhoon “Uwan” over the weekend.

According to a report from the Tinoc Municipal Police Station obtained by DZWT 540 AM – News and Information, initial investigation revealed that the farmer was working at his garden on Sunday, November 9, and decided to take a rest inside the shanty afterward.

While he was asleep, the continuous rain brought by the typhoon softened the soil, triggering a landslide that brought down pine trees, crushing the shanty.

Upon receiving the report, personnel from the said police station, the 1st PFMC 4th Maneuver Platoon, the BFP, MDRRMO, and concerned residents immediately conducted a search and retrieval operation.

At around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 10, the victim’s body was recovered and rushed to a nearby Rural Health Unit (RHU) in an attempt to save his life. Unfortunately, the victim—whose identity was not disclosed by the police—was declared dead on arrival by attending nurses.

It can be recalled that Typhoon Uwan made landfall in the town of Dinalungan, Aurora province, at around 9:10 p.m. on November 9, bringing powerful winds and heavy rain across the Cordillera region. Tinoc was under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 at the time.

The total number of fatalities caused by the typhoon in the region has yet to be reported by the concerned agencies.
