Tabuk City, Kalinga – “Dakami iti umasideg, tapnu haan da pay lang mapa-mapan idiay opisina. To avoid nga ag-flock da idiay opisina, agpila da idiay opisina during weekdays ngem nu Saturday, dakamin iti mapan idiay ayan iti barangays,” Provincial Election Supervisor, Atty. Dexter Barry Cawis said.

The Commission on Elections-Kalinga resumes the conduct of satellite voter registration every Saturday to reach people wishing to register for the 2022 national and local elections in their barangays.

Cawis said that during the scheduled satellite or off site registration, eligible voters are advised to proceed to their respective barangay halls bringing with them the requirements.

To prevent long queues, he added, the people are advised to accomplish the registration form before they go to the area so they won’t have to fill them out during the registration.

This coming May 29, the election officers in the province are scheduled to go to Dangoy, Lubuagan; Mapaco, Pinukpuk; Malalao, Tabuk City; and Macutay, Rizal.

The registration starts from 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the afternoon.

Requirements on the conduct of satellite registration

Cawis explained that the COMELEC had been doing satellite registration even before the pandemic to prevent the flocking of people during last days of registration.

However, the conduct of the off site registration this pandemic requires that the barangay is COVID-19 free for the past 14 days prior to the request of the punong barangay for the set-up of satellite registration center.

Upon coordination to the local health officers to check if the place is Covid-19 free, a barangay will be scheduled. However, when the area records a Covid-19 positive prior to the scheduled Saturday, the conduct of the off site registration will be automatically cancelled.

Moreover, the Kalinga provincial election supervisor also instructed the different election officers not to wait and to coordinate to the barangays if they see the need for an offsite registration considering the number of individuals who are yet to register for the incoming 2022 election.

Last day of registration he said will be on September 30, 2021, reiterating that the people should avoid last minute registration especially at this time of the pandemic since it could result to crowding at the registration area.

As of April 2021, Comelec has a total of 139,211 registered voters recorded in the province.
