Tabuk City, Kalinga – Health services in marginalized communities in the Cordillera will soon be strengthened and made more accessible following the recent hiring of more than 670 healthcare providers across the region by the Department of Health–Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH-CAR).

Under the leadership of Regional Director Dr. Amelita Pangilinan, DOH-CAR said the initiative is part of its Human Resources for Health (HRH) Deployment Program, which is designed to hire and deploy health professionals to local government units, particularly in rural, unserved, and underserved communities.

The newly hired Human Resources for Health (HRHs) in the region formally took their oath of office during simultaneous ceremonies held in Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, and Mountain Province, administered by Regional Director Pangilinan.

According to the agency, a total of 675 HRHs were hired, composed of nurses, midwives, dentists, pharmacists, nutritionist-dietitians, medical technologists, and physical therapists.

These health workers will be deployed to DOH provincial offices and partner health facilities to strengthen the delivery of primary health services at the grassroots level.

Of the total number hired, 104 health workers will be assigned to Abra, 79 to Apayao, 163 to Baguio City and Benguet, 113 to Ifugao, 128 to Kalinga, and 88 to Mountain Province.

The 675 health workers are expected to perform a variety of crucial functions aimed at enhancing primary healthcare delivery and expanding access to basic and specialized health services in rural health units and community-based facilities across the six provinces and the chartered city of the Cordillera.
