Kalinga on heightened alert amid Super Typhoon “Nando”; command centers activated; no evacuees/incidents recorded as of 9AM, Sept. 22

Tabuk City, Kalinga - With Super Typhoon Nando battering the province, the Provincial Government of Kalinga, through its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), is on heightened alert, activating its command centers and mobilizing concerned agencies to ensure preparedness and quick response. 


As of 8:00 a.m. today, September 22, PAGASA reported that Kalinga is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2, posing threats of flooding and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas. Fortunately, the province remains generally safe as of 9:00 a.m, according to a PDRRMC Officer.


In an interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer III Shiuvanny B. Aclam relayed that as of 9:30 a.m., there are no evacuees or untoward incidents recorded in the province. 


“At this moment, Kalinga is experiencing light rain. As of reporting time, there are no reported incidents. All communication lines are stable, and there are no power interruptions. All road networks are passable. Awan pailang ti naivacuate tata nga aldaw,” shared Aclam.

Regarding actions of PDRRMC-Kalinga, Aclam said all Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) have been placed in red alert status, ensuring that all national line agencies and responders are on duty. 


Prepositioned personal protective equipment (PPE) and relief items are ready for deployment, while continued monitoring and coordination are ongoing with local government units (LGUs) in the province as well as with nearby provinces for water level monitoring.

Nakaposition metlang dagitoy ney PPEs and then continues yong ating monitoring and coordination sa ating mga nasasakupan na LGUs and even coordinating with nearby provinces like Isabela and Mt. Province for water monitoring.” 


In relief support, Aclam shared that the DSWD-Cordillera has already delivered partial assistance, which includes 180 hygiene kits, over 90 family kits, and 26 boxes of food items. Additional supplies are being prepared and will be delivered to the PDRRMC warehouse.  


“Partial na naibigay sa amin ng DSWD-Cordillera, since meron pa silang ongoing na unloading ng food packs sa regional warehouse. Dito naman sa PDRRMC stock warehouse, meron po tayong nasa 180 pieces hygien kits, family kit na 90 plus, meron din tayong pre-positioned na food items like canned goods na nasa 26 boxes,” she added. 


For the Chico River update, the PDRRMC officer said it remains in a normal situation, but LGUs have been instructed to keep a close watch. 


Meanwhile, Governor James Edduba issued Executive Order No. 47, series of 2025, suspending classes at all levels in private and public schools and work in government offices this September 22, to ensure public safety. Residents are reminded to remain vigilant and prioritize safety.
