Tabuk City, Kalinga - Through a resolution, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Kalinga has formally taken action against the abusive “Kalinga page” on Facebook, which stirs public outrage for its malicious and defamatory posts targeting politicians and private individuals in the province.

As stated in the draft of the resolution shared by Board Member Emilio Kitongan to Guru Press Cordillera, the provincial board is urging the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), an attached agency under the DICT, to investigate and take down the malicious page.

The move was pushed after the Provincial Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG-Kalinga) confirmed recently that they had already requested META many times to either deactivate or remove the page but were unsuccessful.

During the provincial legislative council’s regular session on September 2, Police Lieutenant Lanie Babate from the provincial PNP-ACG said that they provided multiple attachments displaying harmful posts on the page, but META kept replying that the page complied with their community standards.

The agency has submitted a third report and is still waiting for META's reply.

With META failing to act decisively on the ACG’s request, the SP members approved a resolution seeking direct assistance from the CICC, under the leadership of its Deputy Executive Director Renato Paraiso.

The resolution emphasized that the SP wants the CICC to act on the matter because the agency already ‘demonstrated its effectiveness in coordinating with META,’ notably when it facilitated the takedown of 20 Facebook pages of prominent influencers in July 2025 for promoting online gambling.

The resolution was moved by Kitongan and duly seconded by the other SP members headed by Vice-Governor Dave Odiem, proving the province’s commitment to protecting both government officials and ordinary citizens from online harassment.

With the passage of the resolution, Kalinga SP hopes to put an end to the spread of malicious content online and restore the image of the province and its people, who are slowly being destroyed on the page.
