Kiangan, Ifugao - After undergoing much-needed renovation to preserve its historical significance, the Peace Museum of Kiangan, Ifugao, is once again open to the public as a gateway to one of the most important part of World War II history.

Located near Kiangan Central School in Barangay Poblacion, the museum now showcases renovated ceilings and walls, which was made possible through the joint efforts of the Kiangan Community Heritage Volunteers (KCHV), the local government, and the Philippine Veterans Bank.

Based on gathered Information, the location of Kiangan Peace Museum is where Japanese General Tomoyuki Yamashita and his associates surrendered to American troops on September 2, 1945.

The capitulation of the Japanese force marked the official stop of WWII, ending years of brutal gun battles and occupation.

Inside the museum are WWII memorabilia (historical artifacts and objects from the World War II era that are collected by historians, collectors, and enthusiasts for their historical, personal, or monetary value) and other artifacts.

These serve as a reminder to visitors about the sacrifices endured by the Filipinos and the significance of peace.

In her interview with the Philippine Information Agency-Cordillera, Eulalie Dulnuan from the KCHV said that the museum now provides guided tours for students, residents, and visitors.

Dulnuan likewise urged anyone with a personal collection of WWII memorabilia to donate them, noting that these items could enhance the museum and act as enduring educational resources.

“We encourage stakeholders and individuals who own similar memorabilia to donate items that could become part of the museum’s collection, to serve as valuable learning tools,” Dulnuan was quoted as saying.

Dulnuan further mentioned that a memorandum of agreement is being completed among the LGU Kiangan, the Department of Education, and the Save the Ifugao Terraces Movement to ensure that the museum remains a venue for education and contemplation, especially for the younger generation.
