Enrile, Cagayan – A highly venomous Luzon King Cobra slithering in a residential community in Enrile town in Cagayan was recently captured by authorities.

King Cobra is the world’s longest venomous snake; one of its species is the recently-discovered Luzon King Cobra or the Ophiophagus Salvatana. The new species is described by researches as a ‘dangerously venomous’ predator which is exceptionally large, reaching up to 10 feet and 11 inches in length.

Said serpent had been roaming around in Zone 4, Magalalag West and had already killed a dog and its puppies before it was taken by the authorities who responded to the report of a concerned resident about the presence of the large snake.

Enrile Local Government Unit, through its official Facebook page on June 23, announced that responders from the LGU and the CENRO – Solana managed to locate the adult Luzon King Cobra. They also discovered around 50 eggs of the venomous serpent.

The Luzon King Cobra will be turned over to the RBB Nature Park and Wildlife Center in Tuguegarao City for proper handling, rehabilitation, and disposition.

LGU Enrile, meanwhile, reminded the public to immediately report to their office should they encounter wild animals, encouraging the public to do their part in protecting biodiversity while ensuring the safety of the people.

“If you encounter any wild animals—especially those that may pose risks to your safety—do not attempt to handle them. Instead, immediately report the sighting to MENRO, CENRO, or your barangay officials. These creatures are protected by law and should be handled only by trained personnel to ensure both public safety and the welfare of the wildlife,” the LGU wrote.
