Bangued, Abra - In the wake of tropical storm “Crising,” the spirit of bayanihan resonated through the province of Abra as relief efforts intensified, delivering much-needed aid to thousands of affected families.

Crising, which battered Cordillera last week, affected 7,820 families, or 24,202 individuals, in Abra, according to the latest data Department of Social Welfare and Development - Abra (DSWD-Abra) obtained by the Philippine Information Agency.

The storm brought days of continuous rainfall in the province, causing flooding, road closures, and forced evacuations. Affected municipalities included Bagued, Bucay, Bucloc, Lacub, Langiden, Licuan-Baay, Luba, Pilar, Sallaoadan, and Villaviciosa.

As of July 21, the victims received various types of assistance from the provincial government, DSWD, local government units, and other concerned offices amounting to P1,215,497.75.

Leading the operations were Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMC) Vice-Chairperson and Vice Governor Anne B. Bersamin, PNP, DSWD personnel, officials of LGUs, and volunteers, among others.

The vice governor, in a Facebook comment, expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the relief operations, whether through manpower, resources, or coordination.

Bersamin acknowledged that these efforts were not just by government officials but also through the collective actions of volunteers, local staff, and concerned citizens.

“Salamat sa mga tumulong para mahatiran natin ang ating mga kababayan. The spirit of Bayanihan is alive and well in modern times,” she commented.

At present, authorities remain on the ground, repacking and distributing aid to ensure all affected families are reached and assessing the cost of the damage left by the storm.
