Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The City government of Tuguegarao emerged as second runner-up in the ILOmination Festival of Lights of the Dinagyang Festival 2026, held in Iloilo City on January 25, 2026.

The ILOmination Festival of Lights is a major highlight of the Dinagyang Festival, featuring nighttime performances with dazzling light displays, synchronized choreography, and creative stage designs. One of the competing contingents was Tuguegarao City’s own Pavvurulun Afi Festival, which brought a fiery cultural theme to the stage.

The Pavvurulun Afi Festival is Tuguegarao City’s annual cultural celebration held every August in honor of the city’s patron saint, San Jacinto de Polonia. Derived from the Ibanag language, “Afi” means fire, and the festival is known for its symbolic lighting of fires that represent unity, resilience, and the preservation of local heritage.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Mayor Maila Ting Que congratulated the performers who poured their hearts into the performance. She also thanked the coaches and parents who supported the contingent throughout their journey.

“To all our hardworking dancers who poured their time, energy, and passion into this journey, maraming salamat at congratulations on a job well done. Our heartfelt thanks as well to the parents and guardians who stood behind these young artists—sa walang sawang suporta, pag-unawa, at sakripisyo ninyo,” Ting Que said.

Meanwhile, Tuguegarao City also garnered The Philippine Festival Netizens’ Choice Award with 14,878 votes, beating Pandang Gitab Festival of Oriental Mindoro with 5,188 votes; Zamboanga Hermosa Festival with 4,056 votes; and Banaag Festival of Iloilo with 1,083 votes.
