A fourth year nursing student of Saint Paul University Philippines in Tuguegarao City had her nursing skills and qualities as a healthcare provider to be tested when she encountered two who had just been involved in a road accident.

Venus Olarte finished her clinical duty at the Cagayan United Doctors Medical Center on Saturday evening, September 27 and was on her way home when a road crash transpired in Pallua Norte.

The student of the St. Paul University Philippines in Tuguegarao, upon seeing the situation, stopped at the place of incident and assessed the two men involved in the said accident. Olarte found one of them sustained a deep cut and was bleeding heavily.

The quick thinking student stabilized the injured victim, asking for a clean towel from the people around and used it to apply pressure to stop the bleeding and stayed with the victim until an ambulance arrived at the scene and ferried the man to the hospital.

As cited by the Paulinian Students Nurses Organization – SPUP, Olarte encouraged nursing students not to be afraid and not to hesitate when they encounter emergencies that need their help, saying, “It takes nothing to be kind, especially in our field. Padayon lang! The world awaits our genuine care.”

Olarte’s bravery and heart to aid the ones in need earned the netizens’ admiration as her photo of helping the man was posted on Facebook. The SPUP shared the photo with the caption: “God bless and Thank you, Ms. VENUS OLARTE (BSN-4) for your kindness to the road crash victim.”
