Tabuk City, Kalinga - The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group in Kalinga is urging the public to unfollow and refrain from sharing malicious content on the “kalinga page” on Facebook, citing that misleading information posted there could be grounds for libel.

The call stemmed from the numerous misleading anonymous posts on the said page that are not only putting their targets to shame but also destroying the image of Kalinga and its people.

During the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Kalinga regular session on September 2, Police Lieutenant Lanie Babate of the provincial PNP-ACG office raised the concern, warning the public against engaging with the page.

In her talk, Babate shared that they had already requested Meta, the multinational technology company operating Facebook, to deactivate or delete the page.

However, despite submitting numerous attachments showing malicious posts on the page, META responded that the page did not violate their community standards. The law enforcement agency has filed a third report and is still awaiting META’s response.

The PNP ACG officer also revealed that the creator of the page, who is from the province but currently residing in Dubai, has been cooperating with the authorities to take it down. Unfortunately, efforts have still been difficult since the creator forgot the password of the page and lost the SIM card linked to the account.

While the PNP-ACG Kalinga continues its moves to shut down the page, Babate encouraged the public to cooperate with them by means of unfollowing and avoiding posting on the controversial page.

In an interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Babate further disclosed that their office has handled around 50 cases of cybercrime since 2023. She also advised the public to immediately seek assistance from their office if they become targets of online attacks.

PNP ACG Kalinga can be reached through their cellphone number, 09693005153, or by visiting their office located at the old Tabuk City police station in Dagupan Centro.

Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Kalinga, headed by Vice-Governor Odiem, expressed support for the call and confirmed that they had already unfollowed the page themselves, especially since politicians like them are being disgraced there.

Board Member Alfredo Dangani suggested creating a resolution mandating the followers to unfollow the page.
