Woman in Baguio abandons baby after mother warns her not to return home bearing child without a father

Baguio City, Philippines — A 25-year-old woman decided to abandon her unborn child fearing her mother's warning to never return home pregnant without a husband. 

The abandoned fetus was discovered at a garbage collection point in Baguio City on Tuesday, August 26.  

A local media source reported that police indicated the fetus was wrapped in a blue cloth, put in a transparent garbage bag, and abandoned lifeless at Legarda road, where it was found by a citizen on said day.

Notified of the matter, the authorities proceeded to the area and confirmed the discovery. Baguio City Police Office Station 5, handling the case already identified the mother as a caretaker of a transient house in the city and a resident of Pampanga. 

The mother confessed to the police that she had abandoned the fetus to keep her pregnancy a secret from her mother, who had strictly warned her never to return home bearing a child without a father. 

The report added that charges are now being prepared against the woman. 

Guru Press Cordillera reached out to the BCPO-Public Information Office to know more about the case, but has not responded to the calls or messages as of this writing.

Recent similar cases 

The incident on August 26 again stirred public concern, as it is not the first time a fetus has been found in the city. 

To recall, on April 6, 2024, a dead fetus inside an echo bag was also discovered by street sweepers along Green Street, Lower Fairview. There was also a note found inside the bag, saying, "Kung sino man makakita nito, pakilibing ang baby ko. Salamat." 

On June 12, 2025, another one was discovered in Lower Bengao, Bakakeng Central. A woman resident told police that she was about to feed her dogs when she noticed one of them sniffing an unusual object. 

Out of curiosity, she checked what it was and was shocked to realize it was not just an object but rather a human fetus. Police later confirmed it was a male fetus.
