yKalinga teen is 4th Asia-Pacific Luminare Awardee

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A community servant yKalinga teen was recently named as one of the 4th Asia-Pacific Luminare Awardee, making him one of the significant figures in the Asia-Pacific region.


Marion Tombaga, a 17-year-old resident of Tabuk City, will receive the award “Exemplary and Inspiring Youth Leader of Kalinga” this coming March 31, 2021 at the Grand Ballroom in Okada, Manila.


Tombaga will be joined by other significant people in the fields of showbiz and entertainment, politics and government, business, arts, culture, academe, and individuals and companies that promote best practices in business. One of whom is TV personality and actor Boy Abunda.

Tombaga’s Achievements


Tombaga, who is a grade 12 student at St. Tonis College Inc., is a consistent honor student and a student leader since his junior year in high school. Apart from this, he is also an officer and a member of various organizations.


He is the President of Samahang Kabataan ng Episcopal ng Pilipinas- Holy Trinity Cathedral; Vice President of Membership - Cordillera Youth Brigade; Area Representative of Cordillera Youth Brigade – NOLCOM; Coordinator of Youth Justice Service and Environment; and Coordinator external of Hope Alight.

Moreover, this yKalinga teen is also a member of the Kalinga Ploggers and Kalinga Basura Express, a group involved in advocating street cleanliness by picking up pick trash in major streets and tour sites during the weekend.


Additionally, Tombaga also helps people with disability by giving them Abasto Pack every time he has savings. He also gave food to frontliners in Tabuk City during the lockdown.

Interview with Tombaga


The 4th Asia-Pacific Luminare awardee said his family inspires him the most, especially his two brothers – one is a graduate cadet while the other one is a PMMA student. Marion said he finds motivation on how his bothers face the hardship and admires their dedication in overcoming them.


“Isunga kailangak met nga agbalin nga extraordinary student idiay pagiskwelaak. Gapu siguro ti inspirasyon ket kayang- kaya met a pagsasabayen daytoy studies ko ken panag-serve ti community. I en-enjoy ko lang [ken] isapsapusok,” he said.

He added that he didn’t expect to be chosen as Luminare awardee.


Meantime, he is encouraging the young people to respect their parents and that they should do and think what is right since they are the hope and future of the country.


“Agpanunut tayo nga usto kakadwa nga uubbing. Maymayat nu rugrugyan tayon nga agaramid ti pagsayaatan. Ipaypaysu ken aramiden tayo jay inbga ni Dr. Jose Rizal "the youth is the hope of our future." Sino pay ngay ti agkuti nu datayo metlang. And lastly daytoy ti kunada nga awan iti bayad na ngem ada ti it ited na, isu diay panagkararag tayo nga kanayun! God bless us all!”, he said.
