Lubuagan, Kalinga ─ A total of 1,261 iLubuagen indigent senior citizens received their social pension (SocPen) from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The Kalinga Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) office with the Lubuagan Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) distributed the pension from 12 to 14 this April. Each senior citizen was given a stipend amounting to PhP3,000 to cover the first semester of this year.

MSWDO Officer-in-Charge Ophelia Grace Addom said that with the restrictions of movement due to the pandemic, distribution was done house-to-house for elderlies residing in farflung areas and for those who cannot manage to go to the designated distribution venues in their respective barangays.

As to beneficiaries living in other places like Tabuk City and Baguio City, they were informed to claim their stipends at the Kalinga SWAD Office. They may also authorize a representative to get the stipends on their behalf.

SocPen is a program under Republic Act No. 9994 or the “Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010” which provides monthly stipend amounting to PhP500 to indigent senior citizens to augment their daily subsistence and other medical needs.

Lubuagan Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus, in a message, expressed gratitude to the DSWD and their local counterpart for continuously assisting the indigent elders.
