Baguio records 7 fire incidents, 1 death in first five weeks of 2025

Baguio City, Philippines—A series of fires occurred in Baguio City in the first 5 weeks of 2025—one of the incidents resulted in the death of an elderly.

 

The Baguio City Fire Station through the city's Public Information Office, reported on Wednesday, February 5 that there were four fire incidents in January and three in February in the area.

 

All the incidents are related to structural fires, as confirmed by Baguio City Fire Station Public Information Officer SFO 1 Lloyd Ashley Furigay.

 

One of the major fires took place on Legarda Road, resulting in the displacement of seven families and three housemates. The blaze claimed the life of a 78-year-old man, while his wife was taken to the hospital because of suffocation.

 

The authorities swiftly responded to help the victims, offering financial support amounted to P55,000, in addition to hygiene kits, family kits, food packs, and psychological first aid services.

 

The latest fire, which happened on February 4 at Miami St. Carantes Cpd. in Camp 7, led to the total destruction of a general merchandise structure, leaving the owner injured and six tenants without a home. A  nearby restaurant was also affected by the fire.

 

To aid the victims, various assistance was provided by the city government, including psychological and medical care, in addition to financial aid and temporary accommodation.  Meantime, Mayor Benjamin Magalong expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, as he urged his constituents to increase their awareness and take greater responsibility in enforcing fire safety protocols in their residences and enterprises.
