Balbalan active cases now at 80, almost half of 14 barangays infected

Balbalan, Kalinga – Out of the 14 barangays in the municipality, six have already been infected with Covid-19 virus, with active cases reaching 80 in the afternoon of January 19.


Out of the 80 new active cases, 74 are asymptomatic and 4 are experiencing mild symptoms. Also, 36 of the patients are under home quarantine and the rest are staying in the quarantine facilities and Western Kalinga District Hospital.

Balbalan Mayor Eric Gonayon, Sr. said that affected barangays will be put into surgical lockdown as agreed on their meeting yesterday, January 18.


“... isurgical lockdown dagiti adjacent barangay nga adda an iti kaso nga sag babassit ngem iti barangay Poblacion and Talalang, we have two barangays nga diyay damo nga kaadwan iti kaso na, naglock down kamin,” he said.


Gonayon added that all the infected areas are currently contained and that people are strictly forbidden to move out from their areas.

“Na istriktuan da aminen, awan iti rumwar pati mapan mangala essentials na dita Tabuk, maymaysa laeng iti lugan nga naipalubos nga mapan gumatang kadagiti makan dita,” he said.


Moreover, Mayor Gonayon advises the yBalbalans who are outside the municipality that if possible to stay where they are for the meantime and for those who are inside not to go out.


“Amin kadagitoy kakailyan ditoy Balbalan ken dita kailyan nga adda iti outside Balbalan nga iyan anus da kuma pay nga haan nga sumrek ken dagiti adda ditoyen haan da nga rumwar tapnu haan nga makaalis daytoy nga pandemya kadagitoy kakailyan tayo. Konting discipline lang kadagitoy kakailyan,” he said.

Earlier in January 11, with the spike of Covid-19 in the municipality, two barangays which have the majority of cases, Poblacion Proper and Talalang, were put into a 14-day lockdown.


As to the first Covid-19 related death in Balbalan, the Municipal Mayor narrated that the patient was already buried and that his immediate family will be quarantined for 15 days and will undergo swabbed testing.
