Barangays in Kalinga urged to enact Kalinisan Day ordinance

Updated: Jan 30

Tabuk City, Kalinga - The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) - Kalinga is urging all barangay local government units in the province to enact an ordinance designating Kalinisan Day.

This is in compliance with DILG Memorandum Circular 2023-133, encouraging communities to participate in the nationwide clean-up drive program - the "Kalinga at Inisyatiba para sa Malinis na Bayan" (KALINISAN).

The program aligns with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.'s Bagong Pilipinas campaign, which aims for a clean environment contributing to a healthy community.

To further support the program, DILG Provincial Director Anthony Manolo Ballug has called on all barangay councils to pass an ordinance declaring a day per week as Barangay at Kalinisan Day (BarKaDa) drive.

Part of the BarKaDa drive includes cleaning coastal areas, dredging waterways, pruning bushes and branches, eradicating mosquito breeding sites, and clearing public parks, roads, and other public areas.

“When we have healthy communities, we will enjoy a healthy and productive nation,” remarked Ballug in his interview with the Philippine Information Agency - Cordillera.

Recalling the recent participation, the newly elected barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials in the province, along with other volunteers, joined the nationwide KALINISAN launching on January 6, 2024. Activities during the nationwide event included cleaning streets, canals, other waterways, public markets, parks, and schools.
