Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)–Kalinga reported the full completion of its aquaculture operations for 2025, successfully achieving all major targets in fishing gear distribution, fingerling procurement, trainings, technical assistance, and community-based fisheries projects.

According to the data provided by the bureau, despite the impact of Typhoon Uwan on both agriculture and aquaculture, Kalinga’s fisheries program recorded notable production from pond culture and integrated farming demonstration projects.

The program also strengthened fisherfolk organizations and ensured effective monitoring and regulatory compliance across all municipalities.

According to a report from BFAR, targets for fishing gear distribution were fully met, with 30 hook-and-line gear units and 36 net gears distributed to beneficiaries. These resulted in collected catches of 65.6 kilograms and 226.75 kilograms, respectively, and an additional 290.5 kilograms from other fishing devices such as electrofishing equipment and pana (arrows).

Tilapia fingerling procurement likewise reached 100,000 pieces, generating a total production of 701 kilograms by November 2025, while elvers and other fingerlings were strategically distributed across the province.

In addition, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities and the strengthening of the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (FARMC) were fully completed, while LGU technician support reached 77 percent due to staffing gaps in some municipalities. Overall, the program enhanced fisherfolk capacity, production, and regulatory compliance.

Meanwhile, BFAR–Kalinga generated a total of ₱18,975 in sales from its participation in the 30th Kalinga Founding Anniversary and 6th Bodong Festival Agro-Aqua Fair, providing fisherfolk with exposure to processed specialty fish products.

With these accomplishments, BFAR–Kalinga continues to promote sustainable fisheries development while building resilience against natural calamities, ensuring the growth of the province’s aquatic resources and the welfare of its fisherfolk.
