Dengue cases in Cagayan climb to over 4,000; Baggao logs highest number

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan — Cagayan is facing an escalating public health concern as dengue cases climb to more than 4,000, with health officials warning communities to brace for continued spikes in the coming weeks.

Data from the Cagayan Provincial Health Office (CPHO) show that the province recorded 4,324 dengue cases from January to November this year.

The Municipality of Baggao logged the highest number of cases with 609, followed by Solana with 465, Tuguegarao City with 331, and Aparri with 317.

Health officials reported that the main contributors to the rise in cases include continuous rainfall, the presence of stagnant water, and inadequate regular clean-up drives — conditions that allow dengue-carrying mosquitoes to breed rapidly.

In response, the Cagayan PHO has strengthened its coordination with municipal health offices and local Rural Health Units to ensure interventions are implemented. These include monitoring high-risk barangays, conducting information campaigns, and preparing local health facilities for a possible influx of patients.

Furthermore, health officials emphasized that community participation remains crucial in preventing further infections, urging residents to strictly follow the 5S strategy against dengue: Search and destroy breeding sites, Self-protection measures, Seek early consultation, Support fogging, and Sustain hydration.
