Buscalan, Tinglayan – For health security reasons, the decision to re-open tourism in this community is again put on hold says a report from the Local Government of Tinglayan.

According to Tinglayan Municipal Information Officer Larae Lactao, Buscalan elders, during a consultation meeting last week, opposed the decision to resume the tourism activities due to the current circumstances of the pandemic.

Aside from this, Lactao said the community is not yet ready to cater to tourists as they have not yet complied with the necessary requirements before they could operate.

“Kasapulan pay gamin iti further preparations before a ma-iopen ti tourism ta adu pay ti protocols nga iman-mandate ti Department of Tourism a haan pay a kaya ti Buscalan nga i-comply,” Lactao said.

Some of these are the provision of separate and well ventilated rooms for homestays, comfort rooms with septic tanks for both genders and for the homestay owners and tour guides to renew their identification cards.

“Gapu garud iti Covid-19 ket haan a nai-renew ti dadduma a homestay owners ken tour guides iti ID ken dagidiay dadduma ket haan da pay nai-comply ti panagaramid ti septic tank. Awan pay CR dagidiay dadduma a homestay owners,” Lactao said.

The Municipal Tourism Office, Lactao said, will be extending assistance to the tourism industry sector through the provision of trainings for homestay owners and tour guides.

“Adda iti plan ti tourism office nga ag-conduct para kadagitoy homestay owners after da a maala ti health sanitation permit da and tour guide training next month para kadagitoy tour guides tayo.

Buscalan community is known as the home of Apo Whang-od, the oldest hand tap tatoo artist (mambabatok) in the country that made the village a popular destination in the province. Since then, the industry became a source of livelihood among the locals, making them among those greatly affected with the restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
