Tabuk City, Kalinga – 88 iKalinga women subjected themselves to free breast and cervical cancer screenings, recently demonstrating the importance of prevention.

The screenings were made possible through the PuroKalusugan activity held by the Department of Health – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH-CAR), in partnership with the Kalinga Provincial DOH Office and Super Health Center (SHC) IV.

The initiative, as described by the DOH-Kalinga on June 3, serves as a platform for providing integrated, community-based healthcare services.

The screenings were made more effective through the support of Dr. Marriane Baggay from the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, a premier professional organization dedicated to advancing the practice of obstetrics and gynecology.

While there were 106 women who registered for the activity, only 88 were successfully screened for breast and cervical cancer. The remaining 18 couldn’t be screened because they were either menstruating, pregnant, or had recently undergone surgery.

In a Facebook post, DOH-Kalinga shared that the Tabuk SHC clinic will hold regular screening sessions and mentioned a tentative date for the next cervical cancer screening, which interested clients may avail.

“Tabuk Super Health Center will have a regular schedule for the screening at the clinic. Another cervical cancer screening is tentatively scheduled on June 13, 2025, with the City Health Services Office,” DOH-Kalinga wrote.
