Tabuk City, Kalinga – Despite the slight decrease in dengue cases in the province, the Kalinga Provincial Health Office (PHO) is urging residents to continue taking precautions against the mosquito-borne disease.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Eduard Tandingan reported that a total of 199 dengue cases were recorded in the province for the first half of 2025. This is a bit lower than the 197 cases recorded for the same period last year.

Of the total cases, Tabuk City logged the highest number with 127, followed by the municipality of Pinukpuk with 26; Rizal, 22; Balbalan, 8; Tanudan, 6; Tinglayan, 5; Pasil, 4, and Lubuagan with only 1 case.

To fight dengue, the Kalinga PHO reminded everyone to clean their homes and follow the ‘4S’ steps to stay safe and healthy. The 4S strategy includes the search and destruction of breeding grounds, self-protection measures, seeking early consultation, and the support in spraying outbreak areas where an increase in cases has been reported.

Dengue, according to World Health Organization, is a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Common symptoms include high fever (40°C/104°F), severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pains, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands, and rash, among others.

The public is advised to immediately see a doctor when those symptoms are experienced.

The Philippines' death rate due to Dengue, according to DOH, is four in 1,000 cases.
