Miss Universe PH says she wants to be in Apo Whang-od’s shoes

Tabuk City, Kalinga – If given the chance to be in someone else’s shoes, Miss Universe Philippines Michell Marquez Dee wants to be in Apo Whang-od’s.

Dee represented the country in the recently concluded Miss Universe in San Salvador, El Salvador where she finished her stint in the Top 10.

While fans were disheartened when she was not given the chance to hold the microphone and show her wit in the question-and-answer portion, the Philippine bet gave Filipinos a glimpse of what her Q and A would be like had she advanced to the Top 3.

During her guesting in "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" on Monday, November 27, the TV host ask her the Miss Universe 2023 final question, "If you could live one year in another woman's shoes, who would you choose and why?"

Without a blink, Dee said she would like to be in the place of the oldest 'mambabatok', Apo Whang-od who also happened to be the inspiration of her iconic evening gown.

“If I could choose to live in any woman's shoes, it would be Apo Whang-od. She's an amazing symbol of cultural preservation. She's an amazing symbol of ageism. She has been defying boundaries, stereotypes, and that is something that I have tried to inspire everybody around me as well, which is to own your unique story, own your traditions, love where you came from, love who you're with, who you're surrounded with," she answered.

"And truly, with that unique story, you can make your country proud. You can show the universe what your country has to offer. In my case, my love for my country can shake the whole universe as well," she finished in less than 45 seconds.

It could be recalled that Dee bagged special awards like the Spirit of Carnival Award, the Miss Universe's fan vote, Voice for Change, and Best in National Costume during the competition.
