P3.6M lost to La Trinidad fire; 2 families affected, church burnt

La Trinidad, Benguet - An early morning fire broke out in Central Balili, La Trinidad, Benguet, on July 16, 2025, destroying a residential house and a church.


According to the Municipal Bureau of Fire Protection, as reported by DZWT 540 AM - Radyo Totoo, the fire started shortly after 1:00 a.m. and was declared out at 3:00 a.m.  


Though no injuries or deaths were reported, the blaze left the home of two families totally destroyed. The cost of the damage was estimated to be P3.6 million.

Initial investigation found that the fire may have originated within the residence. The exact cause of the fire remains to be known as authorities are still looking into the possible causes.  


Benguet Congressman Eric Go Yap, meantime, quickly delivered relief goods to the victims in coordination with the local officials.  


Mayor Roderick Awingan also extended a temporary housing arrangement for the families and requested the fast-tracking of assessments through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and the Office of the Building Official (OBO) staff.  


The mayor and the congressman both expressed gratitude to those who responded to the disaster, assuring the victims of support. 


Responders to the fire included the La Trinidad Fire Station, BFP-La Trinidad, Baguio City Fire Station, Tublay Fire Station, NBF Guadawaters Water Delivery and Refilling

Station, and HARAMI Water Delivery. 


The fire that broke out in La Trinidad followed just two days after the same incident happened in the City of Baguio, where a total of 27 families, or 117 individuals, were displaced after fire razed ten.
